LOCOMOTIVE SP 786: A future on the rails.

LOCOMOTIVE SP 786: A future on the rails.

Built in 1916, Southern Pacific 786 served Texas railroads before being donated to the City of Austin in 1956. After 34 years on display, the locomotive was restored and returned to passenger service in 1992, giving people the chance to experience the magic of steam railroading once again. In 1999, damage to a critical component brought operations to a stop. What started as a repair became a complete rebuild that continues today. Today, Locomotive SP 786 represents an opportunity to bring a piece of railroad history back to life in our town.
